It has been a while since our last update and in some ways it feels that very little progress has been made. Over the past several weeks we have continued to chase the mountain of documents necessary to schedule our final visit with the social worker and complete the home study. Now we can say that our home study visits are complete! We had our final meeting and the next step is for our home study report to be written. This is a report of our social worker’s findings and a recommendation for either more education and training or moving on to the next steps. We should hopefully have our report soon.
Our home study has taken much longer than we anticipated due to events out of our control. It is easy to get frustrated and discouraged when we think about the fact that our child could be born and living in undesirable conditions. But as our Sunday school class recently reminded us – God’s timing is perfect. We are studying Ecclesiastes and as I read through this book of the Bible, this verse stood out to me:
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under the heavens”
God has gone before us in this adoption process. He knows exactly when we will complete each step. He knows when our son will be born and when we will bring him home. So through this process of hurry up and wait, we will trust in God’s timing.
We have been taking advantage of our “free” time to learn as much as we can about the country of India. In addition to our online training and constant adoption paperwork in the evenings, Carl and I have been watching various documentaries about India. It has been fascinating to learn about India’s vibrant culture, transportation systems, religious beliefs, educational models and schools, as well as its diverse cuisines, just to name a few. We have enjoyed this so much that on occasion we rewatch the best episodes with Elliana and Micaiah. Their interest and amazement has been fun to see and many of their questions have required further research and discovery. Each episode is giving us a deeper understanding of the people of India and the heritage our son will possess.
